Iran-warning
The Department of State warns us citizens to carefully consider the risks of travel to the Iran.? Dual national Iranian-American citizens may encounter difficulties to depart from the Iran.? U.S. citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and carefully consider nonessential travel.? This replaces the warning for the Iran published March 23, 2010, to update the information on security issues. Some elements in Iran remain hostile to the United States.? Thus, American citizens can be subject to harassment or arrest any travelling or residing in Iran.? Since 2009, the Iranian authorities have prevented the departure of a number of Iranian-American citizens, including journalists and academics, who travelled in Iran for personal or professional, in some cases for several months.? Also the Iranian authorities were unjustly detained or imprisoned citizens Americans on various charges, including espionage and a threat to national security.? American citizens of Iranian origin should consider the risk to be targeted by the authorities before planning travel to the Iran.? Iranian authorities deny the Section of U.S. interests in Tehran access to dual nationals imprisoned because the Iranian authorities consider that they are only Iranian citizens; the citizens of the United States access is often denied. The Iranian Government continues to repress certain religious and ethnic minorities, including the Baha'is ' I, Arabs, Kurds, Azeris and others.? Therefore, some areas in the country where these minorities reside, including the Baluchistan border area near Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Kurds Northwest of the country, and near the Iraqi border remain unsafe.? U.S. citizens who travel to the Iran should be cautious. The Government of the United States has no diplomatic or consular relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and therefore cannot provide consular protection or routine for American citizens in Iran.? The Swiss Government, through its Embassy in Tehran, is used for the protection of US interests in Iran power. U.S. passports nor visas to the United States are issued in Tehran.? The Iranian Government does not recognize dual citizenship and does not allow the Swiss to provide protection services for the citizens of the United States who are also Iranian nationals.? The Iranian authorities detained and harassed U.S. citizens of Iranian origin.? Former Muslims who converted to other religions, and the people who encourage Muslims to convert, are subject to the arrest and prosecution. US citizens travelling or resident in Iran are strongly encouraged to register through the State Department's travel registration Web site.?
