Nepal warning

State Department warns U.S. citizens of the potential risks of travel to the Nepal and. urges caution when travelling in that country.? The Department of State remains concerned about the security situation in the Nepal.? American citizens are requested to obtain updated security information before they go and they should be prepared to change their plans at short notice.? This document replaces the dated Nepal dated travel warning, June 15, 2010 to update the information on the political situation and security and to inform travellers on the continuing possibility of political protests, unrest and concerns about the Nepal by road and air travel. Nepal has undergone significant political violence in the past, and although there was considerably less than major disturbances in recent months, political tensions remain.? Protests, demonstrations and disturbances continue to occur, often without notice.? In a strike imposed by the Party of the CPN-m unified 3-7 May 2010, business and transport were brought to an impasse.? During this strike, large demonstrations were held, and incidents of localized violence took place.? In the course of past demonstrations, some demonstrators force closed businesses, damaged vehicles, tires to block traffic, threw stones and used slings with petrol to provoke in fighting security forces.? In view of the nature, intensity and unpredictability of disturbances past, American citizens are asked to avoid special careful announced demonstrations where the events are produced or formed crowds, avoid travel the road and maintain a low profile.? Curfews can be announced with little or no notice.? U.S. citizens should consult media sources and register with the Embassy (see instructions below) for the current security information.? The Embassy of the United States in Kathmandu continues to monitor the political situation in the Nepal and advises American citizens that the potential remains for the spontaneous protests and political unrest, which could degenerate into violence.? You must stay current on media coverage of local events and be aware of your surroundings at all times. As in the urban centres in the world, in the Kathmandu Valley and the cities of the Nepal crime includes murder, sexual assault and armed robbery.? The resources of the police to combat these crimes are limited.? Theft and muggings occur occasionally in tourist areas trekking as Chitwan, Pokhara, Annapurna region and the area rented in Kathmandu, and popular and female travellers may encounter harassment, especially if travelling alone.? Hikers have been robbed by small groups of young men, even on popular trails. Visitors to the Nepal should good practice safety when moving and avoid walking alone dark, carrying large sums of money, or wearing expensive jewelry.? Women are advised to pay attention to local customs and to dress correctly in public.? In several reported incidents tourists have had their property stolen from their House during their sleep.? There has been an increase in the number of fraudulent schemes perpetrated against tourists.? These systems include requesting assistance for the traveller, returns including financial assistance, establishing shipping routes or business contacts with the United States or other countries, involving jewellery, antiques or carpet, promising huge. The United States in Kathmandu Embassy strongly recommends that you do not walk alone or become separated from major parties while travelling on a trail.? Solo hiking is dangerous, has contributed to injuries and deaths, and makes a person more vulnerable to criminals.? Foreign backpackers disappeared while hiking alone.? For hikers the safest is to join an organized group, or use a real trekking company that provides bearing and experienced guide who communicate in Nepali and English.? Destruction of telephone services in many areas, trekking complicates efforts to locate American citizens and make arrangements for medical evacuations when necessary.? U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to contact the Embassy of the United States in Kathmandu for the latest security information and share their route before undertaking walks outside the Kathmandu Valley (see the section Smart traveller registration program/Embassy location below).? Hikers are also advised to leave their itinerary with family or friends at the United States and register at the counter of police stations where trekking permits are recorded. Official travel of the U.S. most outside the Kathmandu Valley, including by air, specific clearance by the US Embassy regional security officer.? Active duty Army American and the Department of defense contractors must obtain the authorization of the Embassy of the United States in advance for official and personal travel to the Nepal. Designation of the Government of the United States of the Communist Party of the Nepal (Maoist) as a "Specially designated Global terrorist" under Order No. 13224 and its inclusion on the "terrorist Exclusion List" under the Immigration and Nationality Actremain in force.? These two Maoist made designations treated the entry to the United States without a waiver, and bar us citizens from the contribution of funds, goods or services, or for the benefit of, the Maoists. American citizens who choose to visit or remain in the Nepal despite this travel warning are encouraged to register with the Embassy of the United States Traveller education programme to Smart of the Department of State (STEP) and to obtain updated information on travel and security within the Nepal.? U.S. citizens without internet access may register directly with the Embassy of the United States during the hours of 1 h 30 and 4: 30 p.m., Monday to Friday, when the American citizens Services section is open to the public.?
