Osama bin Laden dead: TSA responds

Having regard to the death of Osama bin Laden, travel in the coming days could be a little crazy than usual. The United States, and Britain and the Australia, have issued warnings for travelers abroad. Some airports are strengthening their security presence.

"We remain in a State of vigilance, but the Department of Homeland Security did not intend to issue a NTAS alert at this time, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said in a statement." However, our security posture, which always includes a certain number of measures both visible and invisible, will continue to respond appropriately to protect the American people against a picture of evolving threats in the coming days and beyond. ?

When reached for comment, the TSA made the statement to AOL travel:

"TSA continually assesses the latest threats and that are put in place measures of screening based on the intelligence of the most recent. As always, passengers may note a variety of security measures at US airports to include the use of explosives detection technology, physical controls bag, screening behavior detection officers and random gate, canine teams. We call on the travelling public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the authorities. ?

For those who are still concerned about the prospect of backed-up testing lines, here are some tips from TSA to keep in mind.

Pack in layers - switch between clothing and electronics in carry-on bags. This will give officers more easily analyze the bags.

Check all coats and jackets when possible.

Do not gift wrap. Security might otherwise be packaging for inspection.

Avoid wearing items which will trigger the metal detector. These include: reinforcement arms, loops of belt, hairpins, metal buttons, heavy jewelry, metal keys, loose change and body piercings.

Wear slip on shoes.

And of course, the old standby: be nice to the TSA.
