Warning to travel to Burkina Faso
The United States State Department warns against the risks of travel, in Burkina Faso American citizens and advises delay us citizens travelling in the country due to increased security concerns relating to the incidents of violence and lawlessness in many cities across the country since the 22 février2011. The Government of Burkina Faso has not yet been able to re-establish complete control. The overall situation remains tense and unpredictable.? To Ouagadougou and several other cities of the country, including Fada Ne Gourma and Tenkodogo mutinies soldiers protested violently, looted and committed a carjacking. There are also violent demonstrations by other groups. For example, in Ouagadougou from 14 to 16 April, heavily armed individuals in civilian and military clothes were shooting and attacking several residences of government officials, stolen a number of private houses, a descent in many hotels and seized by force of Government and private vehicles (more of which were recovered with the minimum of) (damage). April 16 to protest against civilians destroyed some Government and private buildings and property. From 16 to 18 April, there were soldiers mutinies in some other cities, the resumption of violence. American citizens in Burkina Faso are encouraged to maintain good situational and security consciousness and to stay informed of the news. Instances may occur where the best way to proceed can be sheltered temporarily in place, if it is generally safe to do so. The authorities imposed curfews periodically, and we advise citizens to comply with these curfews and stay tuned to the evolution of the local situation. Don't forget to consult the website of the Embassy for more information and messages of warden who can suggest additional safety and security measures, including a curfew for the employees of the Embassy and to examine compliance by these same measures.? U.S. citizens should also be aware of security risks in Burkina Faso by the kidnappings of Westerners by Al-Qaeda threats in the lands of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).
